".
I voted in favour of Mr Scholz’s report because I believe that trade policy plays a crucial role in creating wealth and consolidating political ties. The instrument for cooperation with industrialised and other high-income countries and territories encourages long-term political and economic ties, with the aim of consolidating the EU’s profile and influence on the international stage.
I wish to congratulate Mr Scholz for his excellent cooperation with the other political groups during the negotiation of this report’s content. In this regard, I support the amendments which have been tabled as they explain the purposes for which this financing instrument can be used. On this point, the wording has been simplified and certain restrictions have been set on the framework of actions which can be financed. There are also some amendments aimed at creating a closer link between the issues covered in the programming and execution phase.
I finally wish to emphasise how important it is to consolidate Parliament’s role in terms of its involvement in programming, evaluation and reporting activities. Parliament must be more involved in drafting and revising the multiannual cooperation programmes, as well as be able to lodge objections against proposals of this kind."@en1
