"I would like to speak about Mrs Muscardini’s report. I did not support it, having given careful consideration to all the issues contained therein. Why? Because the rest of the world would interpret the European Union’s imposition of such a measure at this time as a protectionist step. The monitoring of this measure would require much more time, and potentially also more staff, unpacking of items and other procedures.
The obligatory marking requirement will be an incentive to start counterfeiting parts of anonymous goods. So instead of an actual labelling of the specific country, we may find fake ‘made in Italy’, ‘made in France’ labelling, and we do not want that."@en1
