"In view of the far-reaching demographic changes and the ageing of European society, the European Union must actively adopt measures to support parenthood. The extension of the minimum time period of maternity leave will, in my opinion, make provision for the fact that the first months of a child’s life are crucial for his/her healthy growth and mental balance. Therefore, I support the payment of salary in full for the duration of the maternity leave. This should have a positive effect on women so that they may become mothers without worrying about the risks of poverty and social exclusion. The right to return to the same work position or an equal position with equal working conditions after birth must be guaranteed. Moreover, the possibility to apply for a change of working hours or working arrangements must be granted, as well as the possibility to refuse overtime work shortly after giving birth."@en1
