"This has been a very exciting debate. I think it shows that there is a possibility of us finding a compromise so that we can take a decision on this. I believe that it would be very good if we could do this and, of course, it is necessary for us to proceed on the basis of the fact that we have different systems. There have been different amounts of progress in the different Member States. I come from Sweden, where we have parental leave that is longer than a year, with a high level of remuneration and where the father is obliged to take some of the parental leave. I do not think that it would be possible to achieve something that has been so good for men, women and children, as well as for the level of participation among women on the labour market, at EU level. However, let us ensure that we obtain a minimum directive that enables us to reach an agreement."@en1
