"− Development is sustainable when the satisfaction of the needs of the current generation does not threaten the satisfaction of the needs of future generations. We need an approach that combines consideration of economic, social and ecological interests, more intense social dialogue, greater social responsibility for companies, and the adoption of prevention and polluter-pays principles. The thinking must be long-term, with the goals of competitiveness, and of social, economic, territorial and environmental cohesion. We therefore advocate investment in human, social and environmental capital, technological innovation, and new ecological services. With this commitment, we are taking part in combating climate change. The EU has committed itself to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% by 2020, to covering 20% of its energy needs with renewable energies, and to increasing energy efficiency by 20%. According to an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change study, global warming can only be limited to 2°C if industrialised countries reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by 80-90% of the 1990 level by 2050. We therefore advocate the creation of ‘green jobs’ that contribute to sustainable growth based on social justice and eco-efficiency, as well as the promotion of employment in the rural world so as to prevent desertification."@en1
