As the largest consumer of timber products in the world, the EU has an obligation to import such products responsibly, and this requirement will now have a positive effect on the environment, human rights and consumer protection. I was disappointed that some provisions – such as our original provisions for non-compliance penalties – were weakened during Council negotiations, but I am pleased this report has been adopted."@en1
