"Although I defend the principle of equality and the need to reduce gender differences, particularly in the labour sector, I cannot fail to point out that the current financial crisis is affecting both men and women and the measures taken to combat the crisis must be taken globally, to help States, companies and families as much as possible to overcome this period of austerity.
However, I must recognise that the States need to make an effort, not only on a legislative, but also on a practical level, to try to reduce the differences that persist between men and women in the work place, setting the same pay for the same job, equal access to positions of responsibility or management and legislating to allow women to have an adequate work-life balance, so that the decision to start a family does not place an excessive burden on her career."@en1
