"Since its institution in 1986, the International Fund for Ireland has contributed to promoting economic and social progress and encouraging contact, dialogue and reconciliation between the nationalists and the unionists throughout Ireland. The EU needs to continue to support the peace process in Ireland with contributions to the International Fund for Ireland, as it has done since 1989. Stepping up this support will serve to strengthen solidarity between the Member States and their respective citizens. That is why I voted as I did."@en1
