Some ideas are worth highlighting: the key role played by cities in achieving these objectives and the role of research and education. At the same time, I would like to express my dismay that the report is not more comprehensive, by including the role played by the rural development funds. By revitalising rural economic life, modernising agriculture in Europe, helping to set up young farmers and spreading best practice, the rural development funds themselves make an important and welcome contribution to general economic advancement across the European Union."@en1
