"I am particularly pleased about the adoption of the report on EU Policy Coherence for Development and the ‘Official Development Assistance plus’ concept, which is an excellent report aimed at ensuring greater respect for developing countries. I especially welcome the adoption, by a slim majority, of paragraph 70, which asks the Commission systematically to include legally binding social and environmental standards in trade agreements negotiated by the European Union. This is an important step towards fairer trade. The European Union must set an example in this area."@en1
