"I would not like to get involved in a discussion about this. However, please allow me to say that all of us in this Chamber – all Members of the European Parliament, and I am sure this also includes the President of the Commission and Mr López Garrido on behalf of the Council – would like, once again, to express enormous solidarity with the Greek nation. They are our friends, and we know what great responsibility there is on both sides of the conflict which is taking place in Greece. It is a huge responsibility. I would like to tell you all that I, too, have experienced that responsibility, and that I have experienced it from both sides. I was a member of a trade union and an activist, and was very active for many years. I have also been the head of a government, and I understand the difficult situation which exists, today, in Greece. We all want to show solidarity and to express our deepest sympathies, above all to the families and friends of the victims. It is natural that we want to do this, and we consider it our duty in the European Parliament. Thank you for the responsible debate which we have had, today, in this Chamber."@en1
