"(
) The great hopes surrounding the much-vaunted Copenhagen Summit have been dashed. The countries with the greatest responsibility in this matter did not reach a consensus on reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. This problem, which is a matter of concern all over the world, needs a fast solution. There needs to be more transparency and a greater input from civil society at the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP 16) in Mexico. The EU must be capable of taking a leading role in the fight against climate change. All countries, from the USA to the so-called emerging countries, including China, which are heavy polluters, must also accept their responsibilities in a fight that is leaving less and less room for new opportunities. The sustainable future of humanity is at issue here. If nothing is done in time, we could reach the point of no return."@en1
