"I voted in favour of this motion for a resolution, because we must ensure that both practical and moral priority be given to tackling the issue of human trafficking and the way in which this trafficking is used as a resource in the labour market.
Under the Lisbon Treaty, the European Union has both the power and the opportunity to strengthen European policy in relation to human trafficking. As I said during the debate on this resolution, this issue must be given an important place on the agenda. As a result of its important role in global trade matters and its commitment to protecting human rights, the European Union has a responsibility to combat human trafficking, and child labour in particular."@en1
