With regard to the specific question that you asked me, it is the responsibility of the Member States to decide whether or not they recognise another state. Our position – the position that the Commission has always upheld – consists in supporting the coexistence of two states: the right of the State of Israel to exist freely and without its security being threatened and, in parallel to that, the right of the Palestinian people to build their own state. We want the coexistence of these two states to be able to create a new situation, not only for the Israeli people and the Palestinian people, but for the entire region too, since the situation there is really very serious.
