"Neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are a major factor in long-term disability. They affect more than seven million Europeans, a figure that will probably double in the coming decades as a result of our ageing population.
That is why I support the Europe-wide implementation of any system that will enable us to do more to treat the effects of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular, of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, both at a social level and at a public health level. Indeed, there is currently no treatment to cure neurodegenerative diseases, and yet this is one of Europe’s biggest challenges in the mental health field, which we must tackle with the resources most suitable for the job."@en1
