lpv:translated text	"In June 2009, the European Council called on the European Commission to draw up and present a strategy for the Danube region by the end of 2010. The European Commission and Member States should adopt a common European strategy which will combine current Danube initiatives and boost the importance of this river as part of the European Union’s policies. The Danube region strategy should focus on common objectives and projects in the areas of transport, energy, the environment and cultural cooperation. Last year, the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism organised a delegation to the Danube region to find out about and promote the potential offered by this river as part of EU policies. One of the main conclusions reached by this delegation was to create in the European Parliament an intergroup to promote the River Danube. The creation of this intergroup helps the European Parliament reaffirm its commitment to be involved in and actively support both the drafting of a strategy for the Danube region and its implementation."@en1
