"Mr President, I was in Ireland last week, supporting my friends in the Irish Labour Party. I am glad that Ireland gave a strong ‘yes’ vote, because this is a very important decision for both Ireland and the European Union. As a farmer, I am particularly happy that this time, Irish farmers supported the referendum campaign right from the beginning. That was a very good decision, because when the treaty enters into force, the European Parliament will obtain equal powers with the Council in agricultural matters, including the codecision procedure in the common agricultural policy, which is definitely good news for European farmers."@en1
