".
Madam President, Commissioner, ladies and gentlemen, listening to your statement has increased my concerns even more. The statement is not a sufficient response to the scale of the suffering being experienced by milk producers and farmers in general.
The crisis is a structural one, and has not been caused merely by current circumstances, as you have said, but by the successive deregulations. That is why we are calling for an exceptional meeting of the European Council, in order to save small-scale agriculture.
The Council ought, firstly, to decide to set up an exceptional fund to provide assistance to non-industrial dairy production; secondly, to immediately set a minimum intra-European price that the central buying offices would be obliged to adhere to without any increase in prices for consumers; and, thirdly, to block national production quotas and put a stop to improper imports from outside the Community."@en1
