lpv:translated text	"( ) We have today voted in favour of Mrs Muscardini’s own-initiative report,, on combating female genital mutilation in the EU. The report flags up a very serious problem and clearly illustrates the need for action to be taken against such a practice. The report also puts forward various proposals for ways of achieving this. We therefore welcome the fact that the Member States are cooperating to tackle this problem. However, we would like to emphasise that the issue of regular, preventive health checks for girls and women who have been granted asylum in the EU because of the threat of genital mutilation is one which should be dealt with by the individual Member State, with deference to the rights of the individual concerned."@en1
