"( ) In his report, the rapporteur writes that cohesion policy is one of the EU’s most successful investments. That is a startling conclusion, not least because, as recently as November last year, the European Court of Auditors confirmed that 11% of the EUR 42 billion that was approved in 2007 within the framework of the EU cohesion policy should never have been paid out. The rapporteur seems to be fully aware of this and, in paragraph 17, urges those involved in the debate on territorial cohesion to avoid all references to the budgetary and financial implications of the proposed policy: keep a lid on it, in other words. The EU’s cohesion policy is badly thought out. From a socio-economic perspective, where account has to be taken of taxpayers’ money, it is nothing more than a complete disaster. Naturally, the June List voted against the report as a whole."@en1
