Hundreds of companies in Slovakia have been forced to suspend production and people are freezing in their homes in Bulgaria. European citizens should not have to pay the price for commercial and political games. It is hard to judge which party is more to blame, but one thing is clear – Slovakia and Bulgaria urgently need help. They need an immediate solution, they need an immediate renewal of gas deliveries and they need to know what will happen with their nuclear power plants. I believe that despite all that has happened we will not turn our backs on the countries of the former Soviet bloc, including Ukraine, which want to free themselves from Russian influence. The citizens of Ukraine should not suffer just because their politicians have failed."@en1
