"Mr President, the proposed system for the transfer and accumulation of credits in the field of education and vocational training should contribute to the mobility of workers within the borders of the European Union. If the European Union is to compete with third countries, if its economy is to grow, if there is to be a higher employment rate and fewer differences between regions, then we need to promote lifelong learning. We need older people. The European Union needs their experience, qualifications and knowledge.
If we want a knowledge-based economy and society, then we should invest in education. We should prevent people leaving the education system with no qualifications. It is also important to provide access to education and qualifications, especially for people with financial difficulties, including those living in small towns and villages, who still do not have easy access to educational services."@en1
