The reason was our firm conviction that this vote would not have been appropriate at this time. Many arguments put forward by fellow Members – be it Mr Kasoulides, Mr Brok, Mr Zaleski or others – are thoroughly worthy arguments. I believe, after this difference of opinion that we had, it is now high time to return to a joint position that signifies support for Israel, but at the same time also support for the peace process, for the Palestinians’ right to exist.
