"I support the Committee on Agriculture’s proposal for a School Fruit Scheme but along with my British Labour colleagues I want to retain an element of national co-financing to ensure an increased coverage. Equally I support the reference to organic, local and regional products, but this cannot entirely replace the necessity of best value for money or variety. In the South West of England I would welcome the exchange of our splendid local varieties of apples and pears for the bananas of Cyprus and the Canaries."@en1
