"We have chosen to vote against this report from the Committee on Culture and Education. We are not voting against the idea of the Erasmus Mundus programme as such, but as a result of some of the detailed proposals put forward by the Committee and some of those put forward by the Commission.
We do not support a special Erasmus Mundus visa as per the brief descriptions contained in the proposal. Each Member State has the right to issue visas, and we hope that they have a generous attitude when it comes to issuing visas to students involved in the Erasmus Mundus programme. We are of the opinion that it is not possible to regulate this sort of visa at EU level.
We also reject the idea of the EU providing financial support to an alumni association of students graduating from various Erasmus Mundus programmes. Student associations should develop out of the needs and personal efforts of individuals. They cannot be created from above by EU institutions."@en1
