"Today I voted against the European Parliament resolution on the European Commission’s legislative and work programme for 2009. The Commission’s ambitious plans provide for further unnecessary harmonisation and directives to be imposed on the Member States in the coming year. I should also like to lodge a strong protest against the pressure exerted on Ireland and other Member States to continue the process of ratification of the Lisbon Treaty, as expressed in the first point of the resolution. The aforementioned Treaty was rejected in the referendum held in Ireland."@en1
