"Mr President, the Irish government is about to launch a national broadband scheme. Broadband is unavailable in 10% of the country and the majority of that
10% is located in the region I come from – namely the west and the midlands. Although broadband is growing, the rate of growth is not satisfactory and does not coincide with the European Union average.
In Ireland, there is an 86% availability of broadband in urban areas, but the availability of broadband in rural areas is much less. Something must be done. We are envious of the situation in the north of the country where broadband is available in every area. I would like the European Commission to put pressure on the Irish government so that we can achieve the aims of the Lisbon Agenda."@en1
