".
What happened today in the vote in plenary session was regrettable. The PPE-DE proposed an amendment that questioned and sought to improve the operation of the agreement already reached with the Council and promote knowledge and analysis of national and local labour markets. In terms of the Council’s interaction with the European Parliament, the amendment sought to ensure that Parliament would be more closely involved in the operation and control of the agreement.
The approval of the PPE-DE proposal, albeit by a narrow margin, undermined the whole basis of the consensus obtained. Contrary to expectations, therefore, a second reading will be required, which means that the report will be discussed again in the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, since this is a legislative area subject to the codecision procedure.
Hence our final vote to abstain."@en1
