"The sea and maritime resources are very important for the European Union in terms of employment and economic growth. They are a source of food and energy. In addition, coastal regions are experiencing significant development of the tourist industry, which represents an important sector of the economy. Maritime resources should be exploited in a responsible manner.
The EU's fishing sector is the second largest in the world. The fisheries and aquaculture sector supplies approximately 7.3 million tonnes of fish a year; 360 000 people are employed in the fisheries and processing sector. I therefore believe that the EU should reach agreements with third countries on common fisheries policies, or improve existing arrangements."@en1
