"As a Swedish Liberal I have a fundamentally sceptical approach to common EU taxes. However, this is not the case when it comes to environmental taxes. Nevertheless, we must be careful to consider which combination of instruments will be particularly effective. I am a firm believer in emissions rights trading and am in principle not against a carbon dioxide tax. However, a great deal of thought must go into weighing them up against each other, and as the proposals were set against each other I found it appropriate to take a stand.
Mrs Ferreira’s report was a mixed bag. Most of it was positive, however, and I therefore did not need to think for long before voting in favour, although not everything was good. Paragraph 66, which was not selected for a separate vote, was, for example, about introducing a ‘CO
card’ for individuals and SMEs. It is true that politics is about wanting something. However, ideally it should actually be feasible too."@en1
