I voted in favour of adoption of the resolution on combating cancer as diseases of this type wreak havoc the world over, including the countries of the European Union and my home country, Poland. Widespread and regular preventive checks enable this disease to be detected in its initial stages, which significantly increases the chance of recovery. A less restrictive exchange of experiences between oncology centres is needed so that the knowledge gained most recently on the subject can be applied extensively.
Much concern has been expressed recently about the increase in the number of cases of breast cancer. It is therefore essential to spread awareness of the danger and provide universal access to professional mammogram testing. It is also especially important to limit people’s contact with carcinogenic products. In particular, consideration should be given to the preservatives used in the food industry and to the inappropriate use of artificial fertilisers and plant protection products. Asbestos also merits attention because until recently it was used in the construction industry and in water supply pipes. Anti-nicotine preventive measures must form part of this action, too."@en1
