"I supported amendments which would have obliged Member States to guarantee the financing of universal postal services. This is a hugely important issue, especially in the many rural and island communities of Scotland. I also supported amendments tabled by my Group calling for the strengthening of obligations to finance the provision of free postal services to blind and partially-sighted persons. The fact that the Ferber report was approved unamended in these respects may lead to concern that further erosion of postal service provision could occur."@en1
