"The European Council must turn its attention to Burma, where the situation on the ground remains dire.
The EU sanctions, decided on 15 October, target the leaders of the regime, their backers and those who benefit from their policies, including trade sanctions in those sectors – timber, minerals, metals, gems – from which the regime draws most of its revenue.
But is this enough? The European Council must assess the situation and establish what further measures the EU can take to bring about real change in Burma. It is time to apply further restrictive measures – including a ban on new investment."@en1
