"I am voting in favour of the adoption of Mr Leinen’s report on the approval by the European Parliament of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the Union.
In my view the European Union’s Charter of Fundamental Rights ought to be adopted without reservation, and also by my own country, Poland.
In conjunction with adoption of the new reform treaty, the Charter will be a binding legal document ranking equally with the treaties. It is important for our citizens, and it is also an incentive to control the actions of the EU institutions in areas in which the Member States have granted them the right to act. Every citizen will be able to invoke the Charter directly and pursue his rights in courts throughout the European Union on the basis of EU law."@en1
