"Both rapporteurs on the EU budget, Mr Virrankoski and Mr Itälä, have rightly taken a somewhat critical line on the increase in the amounts for 2008. I should like to express my views on that.
Unfortunately the European Parliament is opting in too many cases today to spend more money. That is why I have a problem with paragraphs 2 and 4 in the Virrankoski report. That is not appropriate in a European Union that wishes to concentrate on the areas where there is a benefit, the core tasks.
Finally, an additional problem that makes it more difficult to approve the Virrankoski report is Amendment 2 by the Socialist Group. That amendment proposes that sexual and reproductive rights be included in the position of Parliament. However, these do not exclude
