We have voted for Mrs Buitenweg’s own-initiative report () on the application of the Directive on implementing the principle of equal treatment of persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin.
We consider that it is important to combat all forms of discrimination in society and therefore welcome the Commission’s review of implementation of the Directive in question. The review is a valuable aid to determining how improvements can be made in combating discrimination.
We defend equality and therefore oppose the rapporteur’s demands for positive action. We strongly object to the recording and collection of data aimed at categorising people according to race or ethnic origin. As champions of the fundamental principles of law ruling society, we also have misgivings over the demand in the report on the application of reversal of the burden of proof."@en1
