". Mr President, let me thank the rapporteur, Mrs Kauppi, and all others who have committed themselves to this work. A major problem which I would like to highlight in the work on equality is that too many people today believe that we have equal opportunities. That is sometimes true in theory, but we have a long way to go when it comes to equal opportunities in practice. This resolution draws attention to this fact and puts forward good proposals on what can be done and what in fact must be done now. I have, in this Parliament too, repeatedly demanded and highlighted the need for statistics broken down by sex in all areas. Only when we see the facts can we bring about change. If we cannot, by revealing the facts, document the great differences which exist between the sexes, they will be ignored. Besides, people do not realise how extensive they really are. It is therefore a self-evident demand which I repeat: all statistics must be broken down by sex. I also want to highlight my great concern, and that of my political group as a whole, about the difference in employment between women and men as regards work; we all know that the unpaid work is done by women. At the same time as we see figures showing an increase in vacancies for women, we also see what type of employment is involved. The majority of the new jobs for women are casual, insecure part-time positions and low-wage jobs. We must put an end to this situation."@en1
