"Mr President, more women now work, but unfortunately a disproportionate number work in insecure jobs. That means women have to be flexible yet are paid little. The triple C jobs are mainly reserved for women: C for cleaning, C for caring and C for cashiering in supermarkets and shopping malls. Yet we women want triple M jobs: M for money – equal pay for equal work – M for management – more and more women are highly trained so they should have no difficulty in penetrating the glass ceiling to management – and, finally, M for motherhood – yes, we want to be able to combine job, career and motherhood, and for that we need considerably more political support. We do not just need more childcare places, as stated in the Barcelona objectives. No, we need childcare of the highest quality. All mothers and fathers must be able to afford childcare and the Community must fund it. It is not just the children of well-to-do parents who should receive maximum support from a very early age onwards. We do not just need equal rights for men and women, we also need equal rights for all children. Education and training do not begin at school, but much earlier. We have to change our way of thinking here. Much of this can be found in Mrs Kauppi’s first-class report. We support it. Congratulations to the rapporteur."@en1
