In the discussion of my oral questionof 13 March 2007 on ‘the court decision offsetting debts of the Greek State to Olympic Airways (OA)’, Commissioner Jacques Barrot said: ‘The decision of the courts is a new aspect that we are analysing currently’. And recent reports in the Greek press (3 June 2007) state that Commissioner Barrot, in his contacts with senior officials in the Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance during his most recent visit to Greece, ‘allowed some margin for offsetting debts provided that progress was made with privatisation of OA’.
What exactly is the Commission analysing? Is it considering whether the final judgment of the court of arbitration is in line with Community law? Can the Commission confirm that it is negotiating on acceptance of the court decision provided that the Greek authorities go ahead with privatisation of OA?"@en1
