".
I wholeheartedly endorse the content of this resolution. Countries have a right and a duty to defend their populations and to guarantee peace on their territory and the integrity of their borders. Illegal and irresponsible trade that flouts decent standards of behaviour is one of the main factors fomenting conflicts, wars and death. The arms trade, which lacks an international code of conduct that would bring to book those responsible, is something that we must be consistent and proactive in condemning, in the future, of course, but also right now. The fact that we do not yet have a code at international level should not water down the stance of EU Member States and our allies, nor make us less demanding. There are values on which one must not compromise."@en1
