At the moment we are negotiating with the G4 in Potsdam and I would like to know whether we can ignore the recommendations of the chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, which called for a ban on the import of beef from Brazil. Can we ignore the conclusions of the final report on a mission carried out in Brazil by the European Food and Veterinary Office, which tell us quite clearly that the present system of residue and veterinary medicine control is not adequate? Major shortcomings remain in the design, scope and implementation of the National Residue Control Plan. I should like to ask the same question as the others. Do you not agree that now is the time to take action and to protect European consumers?"@en1
