"My fellow Member, Mrs Bauer, has mentioned the case of an alleged attack on a female student in Slovakia last year.
During the investigation, specialist examinations were carried out in different areas of forensic biology, chemistry, genetics and handwriting analysis, as well as health tests. The investigation demonstrated that the student’s testimony was untrue. The student had thus committed the offence of making a false statement and perjury. Under the circumstances, investigators in any democracy would level charges of false statement and perjury.
The Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs said at a press conference that Slovakia was basing criminal proceedings on drummed-up charges and that it was scandalous. Colleagues, such statements constitute a blatant interference by foreign political authorities in the work of independent law enforcement agencies, with the aim of fomenting tension. They deserve our condemnation. The investigation and criminal proceedings are being conducted in compliance with the law, and the case will be decided by an independent court."@en1
