". The Conservative Party in the European Parliament has consistently opposed (and remains opposed) to the entry of the United Kingdom into the euro zone, and in doing so usually abstains with regard to reports on the operation of economic and monetary union, as these are matters for those countries who are in the euro zone. However, we understand that the health of the economies of those countries which have opted to join the EMU is important to that of the UK and we support all measures which seek to ensure the economic stability of our major trading partners. We are abstaining in this instance, but wish to state our endorsement of the rapporteur’s strong commitments to sound public finances and the proper application of the Stability and Growth Pact. Such principles are essential to healthy economic and trading conditions and a good relationship between the UK economy and the economies of the euro zone."@en1
