"Mr President, the installation of new anti-missile defence systems on European soil must be prevented. It will damage Europe and it will damage peace. It will lead to a new arms race. It will revive the cold war division. The US administration is ignoring the European Union and this is an insult. It is even going behind ΝΑΤΟ. I agree with all the surveys; the overwhelming majority of citizens, even in Poland and the Czech Republic, are concerned and are radically against this flirting with fate. Mr Solana's belated filibustering does not suffice. The Council cannot pretend it is blind and deaf or act like Pontius Pilate. The European Union needs to make its position clear at once. The European Council can move quickly and persuasively by taking a clear stand. I am delighted that almost all the political groups agree with the common position and are against these plans by the Bush administration. My political group is calling for a resolution on this matter."@en1
