"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, what matters here is the added value that we want the exchange of data to bring about for the citizens of the European Union, which means to say that we should insist, when the US authorities discover a terrorist suspect, on that information being forwarded to their counterparts in the EU, in the shape of Europol and Eurojust. I therefore want to put an oral amendment, in the interests of security, as follows:
‘Expects that the US authorities, in the case of acknowledged terrorist threat, are obliged to immediately inform the EU authorities about this suspicion;’
I hope that you are all able to agree to this amendment in the interests of Europe’s citizens."@en1
