".
I voted in favour of this Resolution on the fight against AIDS. HIV/AIDS transcends all borders and knows no limitations. It is relentless in its global spread, infecting over 450 people every hour, totalling more than 4 million people per year. In 2005, 40 million people were living with HIV, approximately 95% of them in developing countries, placing an impossible burden on the health system and economy in general. HIV/AIDS is perhaps the greatest threat to attaining the Millennium Development Goals. I believe the number-one objective for the scientific community and pharmaceutical industry today is finding a vaccine for AIDS. Such a discovery would allow us to imagine a world without AIDS."@en1
