"Mr President, I too should like to pay tribute to the Polish citizens who, 50 years ago, stood up in Poznań for their freedom, dignity and social justice against a Communist dictatorship introduced by the Soviet Union. This autumn will also mark 50 years of the Hungarian revolution. These anniversaries remind us of a task still to be accomplished: the integration of our historic heritage to unite people’s perception of history in all parts of Europe.
Mr President, I expected you to mention the Poznań uprising in your introduction today. Tomorrow I will be interested to learn more about the Franco dictatorship in your native country. Still, I expect you to show an equal interest in the history of central and eastern Europe."@en1
