lpv:translated text	"Mr President, today I wish to pay tribute to the Austrian Presidency, and to Austria for having held the Presidency of the European Union in recent months. I should like to draw the House’s attention to three things. Firstly, the Austrian Presidency has helped to maintain transatlantic relations at a high level, and indeed to deepen relations between the European Union and the United States. It has been apparent that this has been one of the Austrian Presidency’s priorities. I should like to express my particular thanks to the Presidency for the part it has played in ensuring the success of the dialogue between the European Parliament and the US Congress, and in the excellent organisation of the meeting between delegations from the European Union and the United States in spring 2006 in Vienna. The second issue I should like to highlight is the fact that the Austrian Presidency took the monitoring of racism, xenophobia, homophobia and nationalism throughout the European Union as one of its priorities. This has indeed been one of the Presidency’s priorities, and there can be no doubt that, as far as Austria is concerned, the fight against such phenomena is one of the European Union’s key areas of action. The third issue to which I should like to draw the House’s attention is the enlargement dimension, which has been steered by this Presidency. I should like to express my thanks for the Presidency’s impartiality. It really can be said that Austria has held the Presidency without resorting to ideology or partisanship, and that it has instead reflected the majority opinion in the European Union. In some ways, one could say that it has represented the voice of the majority in the European Parliament. Above all, I have in mind the role played by the Austrian Presidency in appeasing enlargement-related sentiments and in encouraging moderation in this matter, as well as in ensuring that the enlargement of the European Union is still open to debate."@en1
