"Mr President, Taiwan is a sovereign nation and its people have worked hard to become a major economic player in Asia. Through this same hard work and willingness to interact peacefully with the rest of the world, it is becoming a significant economic player globally. Yet Taiwan’s progress in joining the world’s community in other spheres is blighted by the People’s Republic of China. Not allowing Taiwan to join the World Health Organisation – how sad is that? It is pathetic that the World Health Organisation and other countries cooperate with this embargo on Taiwan. Hopefully, the EU will get the nerve to say to China, ‘we love you, we will trade with you, but we will not cooperate with you or say you are right when you are wrong’."@en1
