lpv:spoken text	"Madam President, having experienced not just the trauma of BSE but the very protracted and painful recovery until we recently secured the return of British beef exports, none of us wants to see that happen again. Thus I support the essence of the TSE structures endorsed in this report. I wish to raise one concern, however, with regard to beef imports into the EU. It is correctly suggested in one of the amendments that we legislate for acceptable feeding regimes for the cattle whose meat is imported. But my question is: how do we police those regimes so that the consumer can be truly satisfied that cheaper imports are subject to the same tough control as indigenous produce? Not only must we lay down the same standards for imported produce as domestic produce, we must be sure that those standards are demonstrably met. That is the issue I invite the Commissioner to address when he replies in this debate."@en1
